THE STOCHASTIC SCREENING
THE STOCHASTIC SCREENING
The traditional screening system is based on a regular geometric figure made with variable dimensions but points spaced at fixed and preset intervals. But there is also another screening system that uses the concept of microdots, all the same size, but having a random distribution and completely independent of the inclinations that are assigned to the different colors in the traditional screen. This is the stochastic screening system. This screen type prevents the moiré effect and improves the smoothness and detail of the images. The power of color is given by the greater or lesser presence of dots and not their size. It is a technology quite challenging from the point of view of equipment both in prepress and in the press and that’s why I designed some 30 years has never had great success.
Since 2004 Graffietti Stampati is using this screening technology (in some tonal areas) due to the implementation in the “Sublima”, developed by Agfa-Gevaert.
